The ingredients

Whenever possible, we source ingredients locally. We promise to utilize the highest quality ingredients available to us, providing transparency along the way. You will never have to wonder how to pronounce our ingredients or wonder what you are putting into your body.

We challenge you to review the ingredient labels on bread from the grocery store and compare it against ours..

If we wouldn’t eat it, we won’t sell it to you.

What is a cottage bakery?

Chances are high that you have heard of a micro bakery, but what about a cottage bakery? Often these terms are used interchangeably but there is a tangible difference.

Cottage bakery: A home-based baking business that operates under Tennessee cottage food laws. We have a license and everything. This license means I am legally limited in what I can sell to my customers. Sadly, items that require refrigeration are outside of what I am allowed to sell. While we aren’t required to have a commercial kitchen or inspection, you can rest assured that I take cleaning very seriously. Personally, I cannot work in a messy space. I abide by the motto that if I wouldn’t eat it, I wouldn’t sell it to you.

Micro bakery: A very small-scale bakery often solo run or with an assistant but not necessarily home-based. It may operate under commercial food laws, sometimes from a shared kitchen, garage conversion, etc. Most often it uses a commercial baking space, requires health permits, insurance, and inspections. It often sells to cafes or hosts pop ups, and is intended to scale beyond the home kitchen. In other words, if The Storybook Kitchen becomes widely successful, we can aim to become a micro bakery. What’s that classic saying…shoot for the stars?
